Clinton comment payback for the Kennedy endorsements?

We all know by now what she said.

"We all remember, Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California, I don't understand it," Clinton said.

I have to say that I can't imagine anyone, even Hillary Clinton, saying something so insensitive and dangerous on purpose, but the Kennedy reference could suggest that subconsciously she might have felt something other than pure sadness for the Kennedy family this week. It would be natural for Hillary to still be very angry and hurt with the members of the Kennedy family who endorsed Barack Obama. Often when people hurt us, we want to hurt them back. But, if we are good people, we resist that impulse. I think it's possible that some speck of a thorn left over from the prickly situation surrounding the Kennedy family endorsements might have created this moment.

Clearly, it is a very dangerous thing to say. The suggestion that the assassination of one candidate could help the other move into first place was much too transparent to be excused. All it would take would be one lunatic Clinton supporter with a grudge and perhaps a little racism mixed in there too, and this comment would be forever written across Clinton's forehead in red letters.

I imagine when she realizes just how meaningful her comment was, she will feel horrified. She didn't show that today, but tomorrow she might find herself wishing this whole thing was over. She deserves to end this campaign feeling proud of herself, but this comment might cause her to look like a sore loser who let herself get so over-extended she didn't even know what she was saying.
