According to the League of Conservation Voters John McCain has earned himself a big fat zero.
The report says:
* Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) scored 0 percent in 2007 (24 percent lifetime) due to missing all 15 votes scored, including the key vote on repealing tax giveaways to big oil – a measure that failed by only one vote. http://lcv.org/scorecard/
Fear drives his election campaign, and the only way McCain believes the world's problems can be solved is through war. He has become one the loudest supporters of Bush's failed policies. He has even gone so far as to lavish praise on our tarnished President for the invasion of Iraq. Reducing a nation to rubble and destroying its infrastructure doesn't seem too important when it comes to defending our "national security".
The tax giveaways he supports for big oil companies means those robber barons will continue to gouge the American people. Ar a time when our economy is faltering and people's wages are stagnant, the big oil companies are reporting record profits. The argument that these corporations need a tax break is ludicrous when compared with the need for relief being experienced by the average American.
McCain is not green. McCain is black. Just check out his somber militaristic website.

It has about as much pep as a funeral parlor. He even has the gall to use Hillary Clinton's phrase "Ready from Day One" as the header. McCain's obsession with military solutions will not help our planet. He will not create green jobs. His policies suggest destruction rather than growth.
Sometimes it feels like the Republicans are a bunch of necrophiliacs. All they do is talk about death and fear and weapons, weapons, weapons.
Obama and Clinton don't have perfect records on the environment either, but at least they show some concern for the planet, and both have lately given the creation of green jobs a high priority.
* The presidential candidates' scores all suffered from the occupational hazard of absenteeism. Sens. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.) missed four votes each in 2007, although both made a point of being on hand for the key vote that would have allowed a version of the energy bill to move forward that included a provision to repeal billions of dollars in tax breaks for big oil and put that money toward clean energy programs. Clinton’s score in 2007 was 73 percent (87 percent lifetime); Obama’s was 67 percent (86 percent lifetime).

During this season's election cycle, not much has been said about McCain's dismal record on environmental issues, but his 0% rating certainly deserves more attention. In the end, with global warming threatening the planet, our very lives may depend on it.
